As a real estate professional, my top priority is to provide excellent service to my clients, but that commitment comes with a responsibility to ensure my own safety and the safety of my team. While I’m dedicated to helping you find your dream home, there are times when I may not agree to meet you at a property listing if we haven’t met before. Here’s why.
Personal Safety Comes First
The nature of real estate means that agents often find themselves meeting new clients in unfamiliar locations. While this is a normal part of the job, it also presents certain risks. Meeting someone I do not know at a property listing regardless of time or location can be dangerous. Therefore, I reserve the right to decline any meeting that I feel may put my personal safety at risk.
Additional Identifying Information May Be Required
To protect both myself and my agents, I may ask for additional identifying information before agreeing to meet in person. This could include verifying your identity through multiple forms of identification, conducting a preliminary consultation in a public place, or requesting a phone or video call before any property viewing. These steps are not only for my safety but also to ensure that you are a serious buyer.
I Reserve the Right Not to Show Properties to Unrepresented Buyers
While I am committed to helping buyers and sellers navigate the real estate market, there are instances where I may choose not to show a property—especially to unrepresented buyers whom I have not previously met. My responsibility is not only to secure a sale but also to protect the interests and safety of everyone involved. This may mean that I require buyers to have an agent represent them or that I decline to show a property if I have any reservations.
I Reserve the Right Not to Meet With Unverifiable Sellers
While I am committed to helping sellers navigate the real estate market, there are instances where I may choose not to meet with you to discuss selling a property—especially if I cannot verify whom you are and your ownership checks out. My responsibility is not only to secure a sale but also to protect the interests and safety of everyone involved. This may mean that I require additional documentation from sellers if I have any reservations.
There have been issues acorss the nation with seller fraud and I will make every reasonable effort to not only verify who is contacting me about selling the property but also that they are the legal owner of the property or have the right to sell. Many times this will cause a delay as I verify from other sources that you are who you say you are and have the legal right to sell the property in question.
Your Understanding is Appreciated
I understand that these precautions might seem inconvenient, but they are necessary for ensuring a safe and secure experience for all parties. My personal safety and the safety of my agents is paramount. I appreciate your understanding and cooperation with these measures. My goal is to create a safe environment where we can focus on finding the perfect property for you, without unnecessary risks.
Thank you for respecting these guidelines as we work together to achieve your real estate goals.
